PTI Blog Hop - Holiday Leftovers Challenge

This challenge couldn't come at any better time than now...  I had nearly finished cutting paper for the hospital card project I've been working on, and had tons of scrap.  Nothing I could even make a card with and would normally throw away.  Lots and Lots AND LOTS of 1 inch strips of paper, that had piled up.  I also had been asked by a coworker if I would make a birthday card for a volunteer at the hospital who works in our gift shop.  She found out that he is turning 91.  WOW, 91 years old...  You don't see that too often anymore, and working as a volunteer.  He's got such spunk and life in him for his age.  He has a great sparkly attitude, so I combined both the challenge and the card request into one.  Here's what I made with my left overs.... a sparkly birthday!!

I hand glued each strip of paper onto a Stampers Select White 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 base
I weaved the different colors into different directions using different sizes to fit into each space with no white showing.  Kind of like a color blocked quilt. Then I sprayed Elmers Spray Adhesive over entire card and covered with Crystal Diamonds glitter from Joanns.

I then used a Mat Stack diecut in Stampers Select White, and then diecut Fillable Frames Die #4 in Hawaiian Shores, and stamped the coordinating image for Happy Birthday from Fillable Frames #4 stamp set in Hawaiian Shores ink.

I mounted the Fillable Frames diecut onto the Matstack #5 diecut and applied glue all around the FF diecut and covered with Martha Stewart glitter in Limeade. After it dried I mounted the entire piece onto the card using dimensional foam mounts.

I then took some Lime colored ribbon I had laying around and added a Pure Poppy button and tied it off with some jute twine.

Close up of center of the card.

Hope you like it!  Thanks for looking!
